Military watches are known to be durable and can work with very little maintenance. Today’s technology has come up with military watches that have all the bells and whistles. Centuries ago, however, military watches were simpler yet no less functional.
Military watches were a necessity during the World War II. Watchmakers were hired to make timepieces that can tell time accurately but at the same time withstand field and battle conditions. Although simple tools were available at that time, watchmakers were creative enough to incorporate a number of functions into the ordinary military watch. More information about these features can be found at this website.

Ordinary watches during the time of the second World Wars were commonly pocket watches. Those who are assigned to go on combat, however, did not found this type of watch practical. Pilots, for instance, who need to do flips and maneuvers in the air had to make extra effort to keep this type of watch in place.
Wristwatches were then developed in order for a soldier or pilot to tell the time faster than pulling out a pocket watch. The watch itself is made out of durable material and the straps were of strong material so the wearer is assured that the wristwatch will stay in place all the time.
There were three major types of military watches that have been in use from centuries ago to today:
General Watches – these are the ones that are available for use in the field. These don’t need high maintenance, are inexpensive, but are still durable and can accurately tell time.
Diving Watches – these are specially made for underwater use. Most diving watches are rated with ISO 2281 or ISO 6425, depending on how deep they can go. You can read more about these ratings here.
Pilot’s Watch – these are used by pilots and are made to continue working even at high altitude.
